Report on my official trip to Bolivia, March 21 – April 14, 2011

As I am writing this report I would like to give you some insight into my official trip to Bolivia. I am very grateful for making this journey together with Arturo Köbernick, our Regional Representative for the Spanish-speaking countries. Time and again we are moved by the way the Lord blesses our team work. Assisting and complementing each other is very important to both of us.

It was a very intense time, filled with travels and activities. Again, we were privileged to witness our Lord Jesus at work firsthand, which fills us with great joy and thankfulness to God. It is simply marvellous to see how Christ reaches people with his gospel. We met people with passionate commitment and we saw how willingness for change was brought about by the Holy Spirit.

The children in our small Children’s Home „Moisés” in La Paz, who are taken care of by Agustina and Martín Fernandez, have now become teens and youths. Meeting them filled us with great joy. Adelaida and Delicia are both married, each having a little daughter; these girls are now Martín’s and Agustina’s “grandchildren”. It is wonderful that all the “children” of the Home have already committed their lives to Jesus and have been baptized and integrated into the church.

In a meeting with the leaders of UBB (Baptist Union of Bolivia) and with Duane Guthrie (CBM Missionary) attending, we talked again on MASA’s possible part in actively supporting the social ministry projects in El Alto. We made some headway this time, but not as much as we would have liked. The misery and challenges in this city and region are enormous, yet the Bolivian Union has difficulties with taking positive and strategic steps. We have given them and ourselves another year’s time, so they can take tangible steps before our visit next year. Accompanied by Duane and a pastor from El Alto, we visited some local projects. It is now our hope that we can launch a few projects within this year. – Currently, there is no EBM MASA coordinator in Bolivia, and we will therefore ask CBM if they could agree to their missionary Duane Guthrie representing us in our dealings with UBB at this stage.  Duane is the director of the Centre for integral mission being set up in El Alto. For this project, EBM MASA had made a contribution by letting them the former building of the Children’s Home.
